We've Arrived

Our travel to Kyoto was without incident. Still, twenty-four hours of travel door-to-door plus an eight hour time change has left us a little punchy for now.

We are pleased to discover how natural it feels to be here. Familiar sights, sounds, and smells are around us everywhere.

The first evening we ate our fill of sushi at the local "conveyor belt sushi shop." Sushi (including my favorite featuring chopped raw tuna and a raw quail egg) and a wonderful clam-miso soup: eleven dollars for the two of us! Life is good.

Today was setting up housekeeping, shopping to stock the larder and paying "greeting visits" to friends and acquaintances.

It's a different time of year than we have experienced here before. The temperature varies between cool and mildly warm. Morning and evening walks are quite pleasant.

The perennial internet connection problem is still with us but this time (with the help of a very patient shop person) I think a proper solution is at hand. The needed device is on order (its WiMax for those who are interested) and should arrive tomorrow or the next day.
