I was in a different part of the city today and found myself next to the river in an area where I have not been before. In most of the length of the river through town, there are the normal traffic bridges you would expect. But in this area there were also large stepping stones creating foot crossings.
What fun! It's really easy to get from stone to stone. But there is also a wonderful factor of thrill at the unfamiliar and the slight risk of a mis-step and ending up in the water (6 to 18 inches deep).
As you may be able to make out in the first picture above, some of the "stones" are in the shape of turtles -- adding another level of whimsy to the whole adventure. The turtle backs are also a little trickier to navigate. They are solid but curved. And even though the head sometimes makes a convenient step, it just seems disrespectful to tread on the friendly turtle's cranium!
Perhaps further commentary is not necessary. I'll just let the rest of the images speak for themselves. You may note that I found several different "stone crossings". (Remember: click any image to enlarge.)
