To Kyoto Again...

Question: Why don't they just fly in a straight line?
We are back in Kyoto. This time we flew to Japan on Asiana (Korean) Airlines. It was quite nice. The service was good. The food was healthy and well prepared. The seats were not as cramped as we have experienced on other airlines. The computer screen on the seat back in front of each of us was a sanity-saver.

One big difference this time was the time of day of our arrival. Previously (on United Airlines) we have landed around 3:30pm at Kansai Airport. Add time for baggage claim, immigration, and a 1 hour 40 minute train ride and we still got to Kyoto from the airport in time for dinner.
Answer: They do fly a straight line.
It all depends on your perspective.
The Asiana schedule had us landing at Kansai Airport at 8:50pm. We made it  to the Kyoto train station a little after 11:00pm. That meant we missed the last city bus. So, for the first time, we took a taxi to the house. $30. (The five miles would have been a little far to walk at midnight with two packs and three suitcases.)

All in all it was a good passage. We seem to be getting better at tolerating the ten-hour main leg of  the plane trip and the time change. The house needs a some spiffing up (as usual). It's  been sitting empty for most of the past fifteen months. But we were able to bed down and get some rest. A good beginning to this stay.
