Philippine Lunch with Church Women

We gathered at the Bazaar Cafe. It is a church-run cafe housed in an old missionary house near the Doshisha University campus.

Today the cook was a Philippine woman so the menu choices were specialties from her country. Very tasty! This has become an annual gathering for the church women to get to practice English, for David and I to ask questions and to just have fun together.

We ate, chatted and laughed and puzzled over words for nearly 2 hours. One woman brought her 1 1/2 year old daughter. Another woman lived in Pullman WA for a year while her husband attended WSU. Domé-san is a woman who translates for me quite often. She and her husband lived in London for a couple of years when their children were small. The cafe employs students. Tsukishita is studying to become a pastor, manager at the Bazaar Cafe, and also works as student pastor at the church we attend.

Here is a picture of about 2/3 of the group at one end of the table. (Don't forget to click any of these picture to see a bigger view.)
